Wolves 3-3 Tottenham: Fletcher header snatches draw for McCarthy’s men

Steven Fletcher's 87th minute header grabbed a point for Wolves at Molineux as they came back to draw 3-3 with Tottenham in an enthralling Premier League match.
Kevin Doyle opened the scoring after 20 minutes when he flicked a header past a stranded Heurelho Gomes, who really should have done better, but Tottenham came back strong.
And it was the out-of-form Jermain Defoe who produced two quality strikes from out of the blue to give them the lead. His first came after good work from strike partner Roman Pavlyuchenko who rolled the ball into his path and Defoe was able to lash the ball beyond Wayne Hennesey from 20-yards.
Defoe’s second came five minutes later, his initial good work got the ball to Modric but a challenge from Stephen Ward saw the ball bobble back to him and he bent the ball sublimely into the top right hand corner.
Alan Hutton’s needless tug on Nenad Milijas gave Kevin Doyle the opportunity to grab his second of the game from the spot and to level the match just before half-time and the Scottish right-back was lucky only to receive only a caution for his actions.
Moments after the restart Pavlyuchenko’s rasping 20-yard strike went through the hands of Hennesey to put Spurs into a 3-2 lead.
That was the way it remained until the 87th minute, despite the best efforts, of Defoe and Milijas who both struck the post.
But Fletcher’s header from Matt Jarvis’ cross gave Wolves a deserved share of the points.
Wanderers now sit two points above Wigan in 19th place while Tottenham remain fifth on goal difference.
