Real Madrid to sign Carvalho

Ricardo Carvalho looks set to join Real Madrid after the Spanish side agreed a deal with Chelsea for the defender.

A statement from the London side said: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has agreed terms with Real Madrid for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho. The transfer is subject to a medical and the player agreeing personal terms.

"Chelsea would like to thank Riccy for his six years of service, and we wish him well in his future career."

The Portuguese star, who moved to Stamford Bridge back in 2004 for £19million, had expressed a desire to reacquaint himself with former boss Jose Mourinho earlier in the summer, saying it would be ‘a dream to play for Madrid’.

Carvalho will join international team-mates Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe at the Bernabeu and becomes Real Madrid's fifth signing of the summer following the purchases of Angel Di Maria, Sergio Canales, Sami Khedira and Pedro Leon.
