Rangers enter race for Everton outcast

Rangers are weighing up a late move for Everton outcast James Vaughan.

Blackburn and Blackpool are also interested in the out-of-favour striker, who is able to leave Goodison Park if the right offer comes in this summer.

Walter Smith has already signed former Everton striker James Beattie this summer and is in the market for another forward.

Vaughan, 22, spent last season on loan at Leicester after failing to command a regular first team role at Everton and now David Moyes is ready to listen to permanent offers for the former England Under 21 international.

Sam Allardyce is also eager to bolster his attacking options at Ewood Park, while Blackpool manager Ian Holloway wants to sign as many as eight players in the final hours of the transfer window.

But Rangers manager Smith is ready to pip both Allardyce and Holloway to the chase by making the first bid for Vaughan.
