QPR launch bid to land Tottenham defender

QPR have made a £5.5million bid to sign Tottenham defender Michael Dawson.

Dawson, 28, was confirmed as club captain by new boss Andre Villas-Boas last week, but was not in the squad that lost 2-1 to Newcastle in Spurs' opening Premier League game of the season, where William Gallas partnered Younes Kaboul in defence.

And now talkSPORT understands that a bid has been made by the west London side, as Mark Hughes looks to strengthen the defensive unit that conceded five at home to Swansea last weekend.

Andre Villas-boas has already started to clear the deadwood from Spurs with Sebastien Bassong joining Norwich earlier this week.
