Swedish ‘stud’ Ludvig Aberg dreamed of playing for Liverpool, is a generational Swedish talent like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and ready to light up Ryder Cup

Ludvig Aberg only turned professional earlier this year and now he's participating in the Ryder Cup.

Team Europe captain Luke Donald decided that the young Swede was ready, and all eyes will be on him.

The 23-year-old's rise has been so rapid and a lot is expected of him in Rome.

Aberg was born in Eslov, Sweden in October 1999.

He first picked up a set of clubs at the age of eight with his father, Johan,

Aberg wasn't initially a fan of the game, but he remained interested because his father enjoyed spending quality time with him.

At the same time, he played football and at Anfield for Liverpool until he opted to focus on golf.

As an amateur, Aberg displayed a huge variety of skills and easily progressed through the ranks, winning numerous tournaments.

He turned professional in June 2023 at the RBC Canadian Open and finished in a respectable joint 25th place before coming fourth at July's John Deere Classic.

The Swede soon followed that with a first ranking win in the European Masters.

And that was enough for Donald, who selected him as one of six captain's wildcard picks.

Aberg is set to become the first man to play in the Ryder Cup, having not featured in at least one Major.

But he's someone who the rest of his teammates clearly believe in.

Viktor Hovland is a big fan.

, he said: "He's a stud, and he's going to do well in Italy in a couple of weeks."

This praise has been backed up by his captain.

Speaking to the press, Donald said: "He's just getting on his road. He's just starting to write his history. I think he's a generational talent.

"They have a certain talent that you see them hit golf balls and you're blown away, just by the different strike, the sound, the trajectory."

For Donald to say that Aberg is a 'generational talent', he must really feel that the Swede is going to be golf's next big name.

But statements like that hardly help the 23-year-old and most definitely put more pressure on him.

Despite being so young, he's already been compared to fellow Swedish icons ABBA and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

He was even asked about ABBA in a recent press conference and coolly shut it down.

: "I would not put myself in the same sentence as Abba. All I try to do is play golf, and I try to hit as few shots as I can every tournament I play in."

So Aberg is trying to brush off the increasing pressure on his shoulders.

But given his lack of experience, he needs to be aware of the struggles that past European rookies have had at the Ryder Cup.

For example, 2016 saw six rookies included in Team Europe, and the majority of them lost their respective battles across the weekend.

This shows it can be an unforgiving environment, so given all the hype, Aberg is going to be under intense pressure to deliver.

But Aberg appears calm and unflappable in everything he does, so we could be about to witness the birth of someone very special.
