Conor McGregor insists Nate Diaz UFC trilogy will happen after his ‘nonsense’ boxing debut against Jake Paul
Conor McGregor has mapped out his two-fight comeback plan.
‘Notorious’ was supposed to face Michael Chandler after filming a season of The Ultimate Fighter alongside him in Las Vegas earlier this year.
However, he appears to have gone off that fight and will instead target a trilogy with Nate Diaz after his boxing debut against Jake Paul in Dallas on Saturday night.
First, he’ll look to dethrone Justin Gaethje who became the new BMF champion when he knocked Dustin Poirier out with a head kick at UFC 291 last weekend.
“Regardless of that nonsense match me and Nate will be completing the trilogy,” McGregor tweeted on Thursday evening.
“I am going to grab that bmf belt right quick for us for us to compete for it in the trilogy.”

“F*** Chandler.”
McGregor’s rivalry with Diaz dates back to December 2015, when the American issued a memorably X-rated callout to the newly crowned undisputed featherweight champion.
In March 2016, Rafael dos Anjos withdrawing from UFC 196 due to injury allowed Diaz to step in against McGregor who was so confident of winning he agreed to take their late-notice fight at welterweight.
After a strong first round, the Irishman gassed before getting rocked and shooting for a takedown against a man known for his Black Belt submission skills.
Diaz wrapped up a rear-naked choke to score a massive upset victory.
Naturally, a rematch took place later in the year at UFC 202.
McGregor was prepared for the five rounds and despite being made to work in each of them he managed to emerge with a majority decision win.
Seven years later, UFC fans are still hoping to see McGregor vs Diaz III.
‘Mystic Mac’ predicts it will happen soon enough, but there are still a few hurdles to overcome before the trilogy is even possible.
McGregor must end his two-year injury layoff by re-entering the UFC’s drug testing pool and submitting six months of random samples.
Diaz needs to re-sign with the UFC after spending a year battling with Dana White’s company which was reluctant to let his last contract run out.
It seems unlikely he will want to ink another long-term deal with MMA’s premier promotion at this stage of his illustrious fight career.
