Conor McGregor shares photos with Irish FA Cup after cousin wins famous trophy with Drogheda United

Conor McGregor has congratulated his cousin Warren Davis for winning the FAI Cup.

Davis was on the bench for Drogheda United as they won the cup back in November, beating Derry City 2-0 in the final at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

“FAI cup in the house! Congrats my cuz Warren David on winning the fai trophy with Drogheda United Football Club!

“That’s two of my cousins now who have won this prestigious Irish Football League trophy. 

“One with Bohs, Keith, and one with Drogheda, Warren!! Tremendous! It’s in the blood!”

Andrew Quinn and Douglas James-Taylor both scored to secure Drogheda a first major trophy in 18 years.

It was Drogheda's first major trophy since they won the League of Ireland in 2007 and only the second time in their history they have won the cup.

McGregor, 36, has remained the centre of attention in the combat sports world since announcing he would fight Logan Paul next.

The Irishman revealed in December that he was in ‘preliminary agreements’ to face Paul in a boxing exhibition match in India.

He then stoked flames further by posting an Indian flag and heart emoji in response to a story that he had agreed to a $500million fight with Paul at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

McGregor, 36, hasn’t competed in MMA since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

He was due to make his highly anticipated comeback fight in June 2024 against Michael Chandler in the main event of UFC 303.

However, their fight was cancelled after McGregor injured his pinky toe while preparing for the fight - a rescheduled date was never agreed upon.

His return to the octagon was then further complicated in November after he was found liable for sexual assault in a High Court civil case in Dublin.

The claimant, Nikita Hand, won her case against the former two-division UFC champion, and was awarded €248,603.60 (£206,556.03) in damages.

McGregor has fought just once inside the squared circle in what was one of the biggest crossover combat sports events of all time.

He took on Flody Mayweather in August 2017 in a fight promoted as 'The Money Fight' and lost via TKO in the 10th round.
