WWE’s Women’s Evolution continued in Las Vegas last night as they crowned the winner in the first-ever Mae Young Classic, Kari Sane.

Sane defeated former UFC fighter Shayna Bazsler to clinch the victory and earn herself a shot at the vacated NXT Women’s Title at November’s NXT TakeOver in Houston. The Pirate Princess used her patterned Insane Elbow to upset the odds and defeat Bazsler, and was awarded the unique trophy amid the post match celebrations alongside Stephanie McMahon and Triple H.

It marked the end of WWE’s thirty-two women tournament that saw females from around the world compete to become the inaugural winner of the Mae Young Classic. The final, shown live on the WWE Network, saw some of WWE’s biggest names attend including Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Bayley and Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix. Also in attendance were the cast of Netflix’s Glow as well as Ronda Rousey and her UFC entourage, prompting speculation that we’ll see a possible meeting on the horizon between the Four Horsewomen of WWE and UFC.
