Joanna Jedrzejczyk pictured leaving hospital with ‘no significant injuries’ after epic title fight with Weili Zhang at UFC 248
Joanna Jędrzejczyk is out of hospital apparently without significant injury following her bruising encounter with Weili Zhang at UFC 248.
The two fighters put on one of the greatest fights in MMA history, which saw Zhang emerge victorious, but the effects of the brutal fight were clear to see on both women.
The extent of Jedrzejczyk's injury led to the film 'Megamind' to trend on Twitter and, naturally, they were both sent to hospital after the affair, with Jedrzejczyk seemingly spending the night.
Respected MMA journalist Ariel Helwani posted a picture of the Pole leaving the hospital with her head bandaged up on Sunday morning.
He also added Weili was discharged around the same time and revealed her manager, Brian Butler told him the strawweight champion had no significant injuries other than swelling in her feet and ankles.
Jedrzejczyk, who is now 0-4 in her past four title fights, said she definitely felt the champion's power.
“She did a great job. I felt her punches,” she said.
“The swelling was bothering me. I felt it more and more, but we’re good. Congrats champ. I’m very happy we gave a good fight.”
Calls for a rematch were a natural result of such a great fight and UFC president Dana White says that no matter what happens, both women are going to get a nice, long rest.
”Did you see what those two girls looked like after that fight?” White asked when the idea was broached at the UFC 248 post-fight press conference.
“Man, they’re both in the hospital right now, they did not go to a press conference, they did not talk to the press. They both went straight to the hospital. They need to go home, take time, heal up, and everything else before I even mention the fight with either one of them.”
“I feel honoured to be so fortunate to see that fight live and to be able to call it. Both women embody all that is best about being a champion.”
