World No.2 Gauff followed that up on Monday with a resounding 6-1, 6-1 victory over Argentina's Maria Lourdes Carle to march into the Round of 16.

With her first-round victory, the 2023 US Open winner became the youngest American woman to win a singles match at the Olympics since Venus Williams in 2000 - who went on to win gold that year.

Fellow US athlete Tara Davis-Woodhall watched Gauff's Round one victory in Paris and cheered her on via Instagram.

"I love Coco," the 25-year-old long jumper posted alongside a photo of her inside Roland Garros.

After shaking hands with Tomljanović at the net, Gauff celebrated win fans inside Court Phillipe-Chatrier before noticing Davis-Woodhall in the crowd.

The 20-year-old tennis ace clocked her compatriot and waved, blew kisses towards her and made a heart gesture.

The moment was captured on camera, much to the surprise of Davis-Woodhall who shared her shock on social media.

Gauff is now into the singles Round of 16 after her win over 85th-ranked Carle on Court Suzanne Lenglen. She will now face No.13 seed Donna Vekic of Croatia.

She still has a chance to medal in all three disciplines- the women's singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

Gauff is in the doubles with partner Jessica Pegula. They pair are expected to dominate the women's doubles competition with Coco relatively fresh off winning the 2024 French Open doubles title with new partner Katerina Siniaková.
