Skateboarding superstar left disappointed by ‘rough’ quality of bronze medal – but Olympics offer rapid solution

The Olympics will replace any rusting medals after athletes complained of their quality, according to reports.

United States skateboarder Nyjah Huston posted images of his bronze medal on Instagram on Thursday, highlighting how it had been seriously tarnished just days after winning it.

The 29-year-old showed what looked like rust and chips on his special medal he won in the Men's Street on July 29.

He said: "Alright, so these Olympic medals look great when they're brand new.

"But [look at it] after letting it sit on my skin with some sweat for a little bit and letting my friends wear it over the weekend.

"They're apparently not as high quality as you'd think. It's looking rough."

Team GB's diving bronze medal winner Yasmin Harper also weighed in on the issue.

She said: "There's been some small bits of tarnishing, I will admit.

"I think it's water or anything that gets under metal, it's making it go a little bit discoloured, but I'm not sure."

However, Harper says it hasn't bothered her because 'it's still a medal'.

The Olympics have stated they are aware of the quality issues with the medals, according to the .

"Paris 2024 is aware of a social media report from an athlete whose medal is showing damage a few days after it was awarded," a spokesperson for the Games told Mail Sport. 

"Paris 2024 is working closely with the Monnaie de Paris, the institution tasked with the production and quality control of the medals, and together with the National Olympic Committee of the athlete concerned, in order to appraise the medal to understand the circumstances and cause of the damage."

Huston came in third in the Men's Street, behind compatriot Jagger Eaton and Olympic champion Yuto Horigome.

It's the first Olympic medal he has ever won.

Skateboarding made its debut at the Games at Tokyo 2020.

Medals aren't the only thing Olympians have moaned about this summer, either.

The food at the Games has also been criticised.

Even Team GB swimmer Adam Peaty has publicly stated it 'isn't good enough', with reports athletes were being served meat that was uncooked and fish that had worms in.
