England rugby team news: Danny Care wants team to make history at Six Nations

Danny Care wants England to make Six Nations history by becoming the first team to win three successive titles.

Eddie Jones’ men begin their defence against Italy in Rome on 4 February and many are pointing to the final game, against Ireland on St Patrick’s Day, as a possible decider.

And while Care was adamant England were only focusing on the first game, he acknowledged the players have a chance of making history.

“We want to do something that no other team has done and win it three years in a row,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

Under Jones, England have won 22 of 23 games and, following news the head coach had recently extended his contract as coach until 2021, 31-year-old scrum-half Care explained he has instilled a mental toughness and new found confidence in his team-mates.

“From day one when he came into the dressing room, he said ‘I think this team can be the best in the world’ and everyone grew a few inches straight away,” he explained.

“You want to be told you can be that good. He works us hard and while we’re not out there for that long, we try and train above peak match-intensity, therefore making training a lot harder than the games will be.”
